Denza, the joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, has unveiled the N7 luxury fastback crossover in China. While Denza was set up by Mercedes and BYD only in 2011 as a 50/50 joint venture, BYD increased its stake in the company to 90% last year.
At this point in time, the company has only released the exterior images of the vehicle. Based on the Inception concept shown in August last year, the N7 looks like a hybrid between a fastback crossover & an SUV. The stunning vehicle has its influences evident from Porsche, a little bit of Ford Mustang Mach-E, and a touch of Lotus Eletre.
For now, there are no technical details available but we can glean some interesting solutions from the photos. First are the dual charging ports – one on each side. First seen on the Denza D9, it’s a very convenient feature because the driver doesn’t need to worry about which side to pull up next to the charger. Dual ports support dual charging while speeding up the entire process significantly.
The Dena N7 will also have Lidar sensors installed in its front bumper, while a peek into its interior reveals what could be a facial recognition sensor on the interior of its A-pillar. From the exterior images shown, the dashboard also sports a floating screen for infotainment. The N7 will be offered as a plug-in hybrid as well as a pure EV, and its most potent variant will reportedly do a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 3 seconds.
The N7 is expected to make a public appearance at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show in April and is expected to go on sale in China during the second quarter of this year. As for the price, the General Manager of Denza suggested on Weibo that the N7 will be priced at around RMB 400,000 ($57,800) in order to compete with ICE cars from the same segment.
