Geely’s Radar RD6 electric pickup truck has been officially launched in the Chinese market. The RD6 which is the first product in the Radar brand portfolio, was unveiled in July earlier this year, while its production commenced in September 2022.
Built on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), the Radar RD6 measures 5,260 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, 1,830 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3,120 mm. These dimensions makes it marginally shorter than the Toyota Hilux we have here. The bed size is 1,525 x 1,450 x 540 mm with a quoted capacity of 1,200 liters, complemented by 70-liters storage space under the bonnet (frunk), and 48-liters under the rear seats.
Powering the Radar RD6 is a 200kW electric motor driving the rear wheels for a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 6.0 seconds. The entry-level variant is priced from 178,800 yuan (PKR 55.78 lac) and comes fitted with a 60kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack claiming 400km of driving range on China’s CLTC testing cycle.
The two mid-trim models are priced from 198,800 yuan to 228,800 yuan (PKR 62.14 lac to PKR 71.02 lac) with 86kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries and 550km of claimed CLTC driving range. The flagship model which is priced from 268,800 yuan (PKR 84.04 lac) adds a 100kWh NMC battery with a claimed 632km of CLTC driving range. All models are capable of 120kW DC fast charging.
Features include dual 12.3-inch touchscreens, a head-up display, panoramic sunroof, ambient cabin lighting, voice control, and ‘vehicle-to-load’ tech allowing the Radar to power small electrical devices, or even recharge other electric cars. For this, the RD6 has built-in plugs in the side of the rear cab which features a 6kW discharge panel and will different discharge modes such as static discharge, mobile power, vehicle to vehicle, 220V at 10 amps and 220V at 16 amps. As part of its lifestyle branding, Radar is also offering accessories for the RD6 truck including portable Bluetooth speakers and mini refs for those nights out in the bush.
After RD6, the company says it will offer at least 4 new vehicles in near future including an SUV, a sedan-coupe, a large SUV and an ATV. Currently Radar RD6 is on sale in Chinese market only, however as part of its expansion plans, Geely may consider introducing the Radar brand in international markets.
