However the sort of attention the Radar RD6 electric pickup truck is getting in international automotive media is very encouraging. Perhaps goes to show that due to rising fuel costs, the electric double-cabin pickup might have a very bright future. There are certain reports suggesting that the RD6 will spawn into different iterations that might be marketed through other companies under Geely’s umbrella such as Volvo, Lynk & Co, Proton and perhaps even Polestar.

Reportedly, the Radar RD6 EV will measure 5,260 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, 1,830 mm in height, and will sport a wheelbase of 3,120 mm. The bed size will come in 1,525 x 1,450 x 540 mm. The RD6 is set to come in both RWD and AWD variants thanks to Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA). With a claimed drive range of 600 km the RD6 will be able to sprint from 0-100km/h in just under 6.0 seconds.

Radar is being positioned in China as the first electric lifestyle brand and the RD6 shows that off. Made to go off-road but keeping the environment-friendly theme, with Radar Geely wants to target a new more eco-conscious customer who loves going outdoors. As a lifestyle pickup, the RD6 boasts features like built-in plugs in the side of the rear cab which will feature a 6kW discharge panel and will have different discharge modes such as static discharge, mobile power, vehicle to vehicle, 220V at 10 amps and 220V at 16 amps.

There is also a relatively spacious “frunk” or a front trunk to carry certain goods there since there is no combustion engine in the bonnet, the space is maximized for an additional cargo area.

As part of its lifestyle branding, Radar is also offering accessories for the RD6 truck for those nights out in the bush. Portable Bluetooth speakers and mini refs are available also when ordering the pickup truck. These items will be available on the website once the truck goes on sale in China. Official prices are yet to be disclosed.

Within the Geely Holding Group, Radar is positioned as an independent entity, with its own R&D facility in Hangzhou and a factory in Zibo, Shandong. Radar brand will launch at least 4 other new vehicles in the near future including an SUV, a sedan-coupe, a large SUV and an ATV.
