The all-new Hyundai Staria which made its debut earlier this year has just been launched in Thailand- making it one of the first markets outside South Korea where this vehicle is on sale. The Staria is a successor to Starex/ Grand Sarex minivan (which is on sale in Pakistan too) and is based on a new front-wheel-drive-based platform ditching the rear-wheel-drive layout from the Starex.

The new Staria has a “future-oriented, innovative exterior resembling a spaceship” with a full-width LED light bar and vertical headlamps up front with a pixel-like design similar to the new Ioniq 5 electric SUV. The clean side profile gets simple flared wheel arches and beltline that drops down after the A-pillar to give way for massive windows, letting in lots of light to enter the spacious cabin. The rear-end continues the clean and futuristic design with narrow vertical LED taillights.
Although Hyundai Staria is offered in two variants – Standard and Premium, with multiple seating configurations, from 7- to 11-seaters, the one launched in Thailand has 11-seats only. The cabin features a 10.25-in touchscreen display for the infotainment system and a fully digital floating instrument cluster which is reminiscent of the new Hyundai Kona Electric. The multi-function steering wheel resembles those found in the new breed of Hyundai cars whereas key features of the interior include engine push start-stop button, automatic AC with separate controls for rear occupants, rear side window sun shades, 6 speakers, 7 USB charging ports, 12-way power-adjustable driver seat, auto-dimming rearview mirror, parking assist with 360-degree camera and LED ambient lighting.

Under the hood the Hyundai Staria in Thailand is powered by 2.2L four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that churns out 177 hp of power at 3800 rpm and 431 Nm of peak torque at 1500-2500 rpm. The engine comes paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission that is aided with a push-button gear selector and paddle shifters.
