Lucky Motor Gears Up to Launch New KIA Electric SUVs in Pakistan

Lucky Motor Corporation (LMC), the authorized assembler and distributor of Kia vehicles in Pakistan, is preparing to launch a range of electric SUVs across various price segments. Among these is the flagship EV9, marking a significant step towards expanding its footprint in the country’s growing electric vehicle (EV) market.

The company has already started the EV9 teaser campaign on its social handles, the launch of which according to unofficial sources is slated for the third quarter of this year. In addition, the smaller EV3 electric SUV is also on the cards. While speaking to Business Recorder, Muhammad Faisal, the CEO of LMC said:

“We are bringing the Kia flagship…top of the line EV9 SUV very soon in Pakistan. We are also considering launching an early model of Kia in the electric vehicle segment…EV3 (a small and compact SUV) in Pakistan in the future.”

Faisal mentioned that the EV5 SUV, launched in October 2024, received an excellent response, with most deliveries successfully completed in January 2025. LMC introduced two EV5 variants in Pakistan: the long-range Earth model, offering a range of 620 km per charge and priced at Rs. 23 million, and the short-range Air model, with a range of 480 km and priced at Rs. 18.5 million.

According to Faisal, corporate executives and business owners from major metropolitan cities, including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, are the primary buyers of the EV5 in Pakistan, adding that those who have shifted to the Kia EV5 were already driving SUVs.

LMC entered Pakistan’s EV market in October 2024, roughly five years after establishing its presence in the country. Faisal said that the local market is gradually seeing increased demand for electric vehicles, driven by their environmental benefits and lower energy consumption costs compared to combustion engines. However, he noted that buyers in Pakistan are not primarily motivated by fuel savings. He explained:

“Most people are purchasing electric vehicles from various brands as a status symbol and lifestyle choice, as EVs are significantly more expensive—often double the price of conventional cars.”

Faisal explained that the government’s proactive initiatives in the EV sector inspired Lucky Motor to introduce KIA’s diverse EV models in Pakistan, targeting specific customer segments. He noted that while the government is aggressively promoting EV adoption, significant challenges remain, including a lack of nationwide charging infrastructure and the limited resale value of electric vehicles. To address these issues and combat climate challenges, the government is working on a New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Policy 2025 and collaborating with a Chinese firm to invest $350 million in establishing 3,500 charging stations across the country.

While the price range for the upcoming Kia EV9 flagship electric SUV in Pakistan has not been disclosed yet, it is safe to expect it to exceed Rs. 25 million, given that the top-spec EV5 is already priced at Rs. 23 million.
