The Mazda 2 facelift which debuted as a hatchback in Japan earlier this year has now been launched in Thailand in both hatchback and sedan forms. Most of the changes are aesthetic, with a new front end taking the lead.
There are two fascias available, each with a different grille design. The first is a panel that resembles an electric vehicle because it is mostly closed off, while the second has a black honeycomb mesh insert that gives it a sportier look. Both are joined by a lower intake that has been downturned and a black, reprofiled trim surround.

A color accent is also present on the hatchback’s front grille and rear bumper, which the automaker claims add a sense of contrast. The sedan only has a front color accent because its lower insert is different. In addition, new exterior color options and newly designed alloys are available. Two further special versions, Rookie Drive and Clap Pop, are added to the hatchback to further customize the vehicle. These are achieved by including decals, high contrast features, and a variety of variously colored wheel covers.
Inside, the dashboard design remains largely the same but is now enlivened with colored dashboard panels that match the color of the outside. Although it still uses the outdated Mazda Connect infotainment system, the free-standing touchscreen has grown in size to an 8-inch panel.

Mazda 2 in Thailand comes with a choice of two engines. The Skyactiv-G 1.3L naturally aspirated petrol, which has 92 hp and 123 Nm, is the first option. A 1.5L turbocharged diesel with 103 hp of power and 250 Nm of torque is the second option. A 6-speed automatic gearbox comes paired with both engines.

LED headlights and daytime running lights, smart keyless entry/push button start, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are all included in the specifications. 5 variants each are available with sedan & hatchback. The petrol versions are the C, S, and SP, while the diesel variants are the XD and XDL. Meanwhile, petrol versions have 15-inch wheels and diesel variants have 16-inch wheels.
