Images of the new Isuzu D-Max being tested on the roads of Europe have surfaced the internet again. Earlier this year, the 4-door double cab version of the D-Max was spotted on Sweden’s snow-covered roads for winter testing.

As per the latest pictures, the 2-door camouflaged test mule appears to have an extended cab body and while the head lights and tail lamps looks similar; it’s the bumper that’s going to receive a major redesign. The extended cab has a longer bed but it still comes with a bench seat behind the front seats, making it the ideal compromise between the 2-seat single cab version and the 5-seat double cab.
The new Isuzu D-Max will be powered by an RZ4E-TC 1.9-liter turbo diesel 4-cylinder engine for the European market. This engine generates 150hp of power at 3600 rpm and flat torque of 350 Nm between 1800-2600 rpm, which makes it 16 hp and 30 Nm more powerful than the 2.5 liter 4JK1-TCX engine we have with the D-Max here. In Pakistan, the flagship D-Max V-Cross trims are powered by 3.0 liter 4JJ1-TCX (163hp/ 380Nm) engine whereas the rest of the lineup gets the 2.5 liter 4JK1-TCX (136hp/ 320Nm) engine.

Inside, Isuzu is expected to offer more upscale materials, new technology, and improved comfort levels. An updated set of safety and driver assistance systems are also expected to be offered.
This forthcoming generation of the Isuzu D-Max will also spawn a new platform sibling for the next-generation Mazda BT-50 pickup truck. The new Isuzu D-Max is expected to make its debut in 2020, followed by the next gen Mazda BT-50.
