Next Gen Toyota Yaris Sedan to Debut on This Date

Toyota Yaris sedan (also known as Vios) is a popular B-segment choice in the region, the current (third) generation of which debuted in 2013 and has received multiple makeovers since then. Toyota launched the fourth generation TNGA-based Yaris hatchback in October 2019, but is yet to release the sedan derivative of the car.

Now according to a recent report by AutoIndustriya, the next generation sedan will debut in August 2022 starting from Thailand where the car is marketed as Yaris Ativ. Interestingly however, unlike all preceding Yaris generations, the new one won’t carry the XP codename (first-gen XP40, second-gen XP90, third-gen XP150) but will use code D92A. This is because Toyota will use the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform for the new Vios/ Yaris sedan. It can also borrow cues from the Daihatsu DN-F sedan concept previewed at the 2017 Gaikindo International Auto Show.

By using DNGA platform, the next generation Vios/ Yaris sedan will get benefits such as weight savings, enhanced rigidity and improved safety. The report also claimed that there will be a hybrid version that will arrive by August 2023. Although it will be too early to predict on how the new Vios/ Yaris sedan will look like, however the previous speculative renderings (based on the hatchback) gives us an imagination of the possible 4th gen Yaris appearance. Whether it will remain close to the DN-F concept or the new fourth-gen Yaris hatchback, we will have to wait to find out. Stay tuned to CarSpiritPK for more information.
