Nio ET7 Wins 2022 Car of the Year Award in Sweden

Chinese cars have started to get recognized in European markets after having set their strong footing in the EU. After constantly increasing sales, trusted consumer base and impressive crash test results, these cars have now started to be crowned with the Car of the Year title.

The car in discussion is none other than the NIO ET7, which has won the prestigious 2022 Swedish Car of the Year award. The ET7 was selected by Auto Motor & Sport Sverige, a leading Swedish car magazine, the editorial team of which not only awarded NIO ET7 as Car of the Year but also as best in the luxury segment. The magazine commented:

“A new brand is shaking up. Luxurious experience at a good price.”

NIO ET7 was launched in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden in October 2022, following its market entry in Norway. This is the 3rd coveted European award within just two months of its launch, as the ET7 has already grabbed the Golden Steering Wheel award in Germany, as well as winning the Technological Frontrunner of the Year in 2022 Danish Auto Awards in Denmark, beating the likes of Mercedes EQS and Tesla Model Y.

The ET7 also secured 2nd place in the Norwegian Car of the Year award. According to the jury, the electric sedan boasts “nice design, great space, high comfort combined with raw muscle power and good range are all ingredients that will undoubtedly lead to the NIO ET7 gaining many followers.”

NIO stepped in Europe in late 2021 starting from Norway where it has sold nearly 1,300 cars since then, mainly the ES8 electric SUV. Nio follows its “25 countries by 2025” plan and entered Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands in October this year. In the second phase, Nio will enter Austria, Belgium, France, Hungary, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland. The company is also aiming to enter US market by 2025.

The automaker will also tap the volume vehicle segment by launching an all-new marque as new energy vehicles see their popularity rise in Chinese as well as key global markets. According to NIO founder and CEO William Li, the company is preparing to make mass-market products under another [less expensive] brand for which a core team has been established already. Li said:

“The relationship between NIO and our new mass-market brand will be like that of Audi & Volkswagen as well as Lexus & Toyota.”

NIO aims to launch its new volume brand within the next 2 years in 20 countries including Pakistan, India and Bangladesh according to the company website.
