A Brief Biography of Osamu Matsuda (Original Name):

Osamu Matsuda was born on January 30, 1930. He graduated with a degree in law from Shuo University in 1953. His life took a pivotal turn when he fell in love with the daughter of Shunzo Suzuki, then president of Suzuki. In 1958, he married her and was adopted into the Suzuki family (following the Japanese custom for families without male heirs), changing his surname to Suzuki. This marked the beginning of his journey in the automotive industry.

Suzuki’s remarkable growth during the 1980s was driven by Osamu’s visionary strategies. These included targeting overlooked markets like Pakistan and Hungary, forming partnerships with other automakers to expand market share, and conducting market research to develop affordable small cars in response to the late 1970s oil crisis. One of his most significant accomplishments was partnering with Maruti Udyog to establish Maruti Suzuki in 1983, which has since become India’s largest automaker.
