Pak Suzuki Announces Another Shutdown Schedule

Pak Suzuki has announced the closure of its assembly plant for another 3 days. According to the notification, the company said it would suspend its operations from October 24 to October 26, 2022.

This is the 8th time during the last 2 months that Pak Suzuki has announced a schedule of non-production days. The company had previously halted production from August 18 to August 19, August 22 to August 26, August 29 to August 31, September 6 to September 9, September 19 to September 23 as well as 19th to 21st October 2022.

The company blames the mechanism introduced by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for prior approval for import under the HS code 8703 category (including CKDs) through a circular issued on May 20, 2022, as the reason behind the hampered assembly operations. The company notification reads:

“Restrictions had adversely impacted clearance of import consignment which resultantly affected the inventory levels. Therefore, due to the shortage of inventory level, the management of the company has decided to shut down its automobile plant from October 24, 2022, to October 26, 2022. However, the motorcycle plant will remain operative.”

Other assemblers are also facing similar issues and the end to this problem is not in sight either. Which means the disruptions in CKD assembly operations will likely be there in the months to come.
