Pak Suzuki Swift Discontinued

Suzuki Swift hatchback has been finally discontinued in Pakistan. Pak Suzuki had informed its dealers last year, that the production of the 1300cc hatchback will come to an end in August 2021. Although there is no official announcement made by the company, several authorized dealerships have confirmed that the Swift has been discontinued and no more bookings are being accepted.

Suzuki president Hiroshi Tsuda (L) and chairman Osamu Suzuki introduce the new Swift sporty hatchback (year 2004)

The 2nd generation Swift made its world debut in 2004 and was replaced by the third generation model in 2010, however the same year the hatchback was introduced in Pakistan and remained entirely unchanged throughout almost 12 years of its production in our country. During this period, sales of Swift also took a dip in presence of other fuel efficient Suzuki hatchbacks. For example, 5,509 units of Swift were sold in FY2018-19 while only 2,316 units were sold in FY2020-21 witnessing a deplorable 58% decline in sales.

According to the reports shared earlier, Pak Suzuki is considering to introduce the 4th gen Swift as a replacement which made its world debut in Japan back in December 2016 and has received a facelift last year featuring mild cosmetic enhancement with equipment and engine upgrades. However, the one reaching Pakistan will most likely be the pre-facelift version. Though an official announcement in this regard is yet to be made by the company.

Test mules of the 4th gen Swift were also spotted on our roads on multiple occasions, which interestingly included the hybrid variants. Official specifications are unknown at this stage however the new Swift in Pakistan is expected to be powered by 1.2 liter engine and will come paired to either 5-speed manual or AGS (Auto Gear Shift) transmission options. It will be interesting to see the launch of Swift hybrid particularly when the Japanese automakers in Pakistan have indicated to introduce hybrid vehicles under the new auto policy.

Introduced elsewhere in 2017, the 4th gen Swift is nearing its production run and is expected to be replaced by 5th generation model by July 2022. Better late than never, auto consumers of Pakistan might finally welcome the 4th generation model with Pak Suzuki having skipped the 3rd gen Swift altogether. The new (4th gen) Suzuki Swift will be better equipped than the existing model we have here however it is likely going to be priced higher. More updates on the new Suzuki Swift in Pakistan to be shared as & when available, stay tuned to CarSpiritPK for more information.
