Earlier this year in August, it was reported that Pak Suzuki is considering to introduce an automatic variant with the 1,000cc WagonR tallboy hatchback. Now first images of the Wagon R equipped with Suzuki’s AGS (Auto Gear Shift) technology have surfaced the internet.

The Wagon R is currently available with 5-speed manual transmission only, whereas the other two Suzuki hatchbacks from this era– the Celerio (Cultus) and Alto 660cc already come equipped with an AGS variant.
Wagon R which was once known as the bestselling car (after Mehran) in Pak Suzuki’s product portfolio, is suffering from dismal sales ever since the beginning of FY2019-20. As of the first 5 months of this fiscal year, the sales of Wagon R got reduced by 72% to just 3,339 units compared to 13,341 units sold in the same period a year earlier.

Pak Suzuki hopes to improve the ailing sales of Wagon R with the launch of AGS version, however with this the prices are expected to be increased by Rs 100,000. The top-spec Wagon R VXL already retails for PKR 16.25 lac, however it has no airbags, no ABS, no power mirrors, only 2 power windows etc.
The Wagon R AGS is expected to be offered with the VXL trim only and will be expensive than the manual versions for sure, however it is yet to be seen is the company is going to cover up the missing equipment. Pak Suzuki is yet to reveal the official prices of the Wagon R AGS, the launch of which is expected either towards the end of this year or early next year.
