Porsche has set a new record for the fastest single journey carried out by an electric vehicle from Thailand to Singapore, completing the trip in 29 hours and 15 minutes.
A group of three journalists drove from Thailand through Malaysia to Singapore, one from each country using a Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo for the trip. Pan Eu Jin from Malaysia, Pholpat Salayakanond from Thailand, and Desmond Chan from Singapore took part in the trip, traveling 1,845 kilometers in that time.
The three drivers took turns operating the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo during the journey, which is known as the Taycan Record Run, stopping only occasionally to recharge, according to Porsche. This model has the Performance Battery Plus specification and the software update from 2022, which results in an increased WLTP-rated range of 512 km thanks to improved thermal energy management, selective front-axle motor de-coupling, and improved energy recuperation strategies.
The run made use of the Shell Recharge HPC network, which is made up of ABB chargers with outputs ranging from 180 kW to 360 kW. This allowed each charging interval to take no longer than 25 minutes thanks to the Taycan’s 800-volt electrical architecture.
Porsche claims that no further incentives were given to the record attempt participants and that all current speed limits were followed in order to avoid invalidating the record attempt. Existing Porsche customer benefits were leveraged on the Shell HPC network, where EV chargers may be reserved for up to 60 minutes ahead of their users’ arrival.
