Sazgar Engineering Works Limited (SEWL), the assemblers of BAIC and Haval vehicles in Pakistan has suspended assembly operations due to a shortage of inventory. According to the company notice sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), SEWL informed that its plant would remain shut between February 27, 2023, and March 4, 2023.
The company blames stringent measures by the government to minimize the import of CKDs & raw materials that has disrupted the supply chain. However, SEWL has clarified that its 3-wheeler plant & parts manufacturing plant will remain operational.
So far, SEWL only assembles the BAIC BJ40 Plus and three variants of Haval H6 in Pakistan. The company recently jacked up the prices of its vehicles in wake of an added 18% GST by the government, after which the price of BAIC BJ40 Plus is now PKR 10,585,000 (Rs 1 crore 5.85 lac) while the Haval H6 is priced between PKR 8,525,000 (Rs 85.25 lac) and PKR 11,095,000 (Rs 1 crore 10.95 lac).
