Spyshots of a heavily face-lifted Mitsubishi Lancer have appeared on the internet which could go on sale later this year. The model is likely to be exclusive to the Chinese market, while other markets will still get the international-spec Lancer that received a minor facelift in last October.
Similar to the new Outlander and Pajero Sport, the Lancer receives the X-shaped family face that bestows a premium yet aggressive look to the front fascia. Sleek headlights with projector lamps, generous amount of chrome embellishments, fog-lamps, new 5-spoke alloy rims and redesigned tail-lamps are some of the salient features on the exterior.
Changes inside, however, are minor. It gets a redesigned center console with bright silver inlays, leather upholstery, 3-spoke multi-function steering with gearshift paddles on the column and a small 2-DIN infotainment screen.
According to reports, the next generation Lancer will be based on a Nissan platform since Mitsubishi was acquired by Nissan earlier this year. Mitsubishi had previously announced to officially kill the Lancer, Galant and Pajero brands but things could change after Nissan’s acquisition of the company.
