Ideal Motors will introduce the “Moksha,” Sri Lanka’s first domestically produced fully electric vehicle, on the market in November 2023. The ‘Ideal Moksha’, a four-seater EV will cost less than Rs. 4.5 million, according to Daily News.
Taking inspiration from the iconic Austin Mini Moke, ‘Ideal Moksha‘ will be a completely air-conditioned vehicle with a push start and alloy wheels. The vehicle will also include a 7-inch multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, allowing the passengers to access maps, their preferred music, and information.
Nalain Welgama, the chairman of Ideal Motors, disclosed that the 22.46 kWh lithium battery in the “Ideal Moksha” gives it a range of up to 200 km on a single charge when plugged into a 15-amp household charger overnight. The battery will have a five-year warranty and is built in Sri Lanka, bringing the car’s overall value addition to over 45%, he added.
Welgama is confident that his car will change Sri Lanka’s reputation as an importer of motor vehicles and transform it into an exporter, bringing high forex-earning business to the country. He went on to reveal:
“We have already received export inquiries from Africa for ‘Ideal Moksha’ and exports would happen from the end of 2024. Our Moksha will be lined out in the new manufacturing plant by Ideal Motors. We have built a separate brand new 30,000 Sq ft facility next to the Mahindra plant in Welipenna for this operation.”
