Suzuki has launched a new ‘Luxury’ version of the latest generation of its Carry commercial pickup in Indonesia. The world luxury isn’t exactly something that fits with the Suzuki Carry, the sole purpose of which is to haul either people or cargo. Off course it doesn’t transform the utilitarian into a leather-lined cruiser, but Suzuki has added some cosmetic bits to make it look less like a workhorse.

In terms of exterior, there are matching bumpers (standard models are fitted with black ones) while the grill has been tweaked to look like that of Vitara’s. Towards the side, there are decals on the loading bed and the word ‘Suzuki’ stamped on the tailgate is finished in black to let the brand name stand out a bit more. Aside from these, Suzuki has given the Carry Luxury more chrome embellishments including the grille, the door handles and side mirror caps. Even the wheel covers of the steel rims have been given the same treatment.
The equipment remains identical to the standard Carry. It comes equipped with air-conditioning, adjustable seats, a 1-DIN radio, power steering, and loads of storage bins. However there are more optional accessories available in the Carry Luxury. These include an additional 12v socket, door visors, rubber matting, spare tire carrier retainer, a cover for the radio and upper tray.

No change in the powertrain as the Carry Luxury comes fitted with a 1.5-liter engine, good for 95 hp and 135 Nm of torque sending power through a 5-speed manual transmission. Despite its size, Suzuki says the Carry Luxury can haul up to 1-ton worth of payload at its back. It is available in standard as well as flat-bed configurations.
Suzuki Carry entered its 12th generation last year at the 2019 Indonesia International Motor Show and as the company says, is bigger and more capable than the previous generation models. This has also made the local assembled Carry, 5 generations behind the global model. Pak Suzuki still sells the 7th gen Carry dubbed as Ravi & Bolan for its pickup & van variants respectively, and the duo in 2020 has already completed 41 years of their lives in our market.
