Top 3 Bestselling Cars in Pakistan in CY2021

Year 2021 ended on a high note for local automakers as sales of passenger cars assembled locally witnessed an unexpected 97% YoY surge with 27,331 units compared to 13,870 units sold in December a year earlier.

Despite depreciating currency value, increased freight & shipping costs and rising car prices, overall it turned out to be a good year for local auto assemblers who were recovering from the impact of COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Sales of almost every car witnessed an upward spike in sales graph. According to the data released by Pakistan Automobile Manufacturers Association (PAMA), the following were the top 3 bestselling local assembled cars in Pakistan in calendar year 2021.

#3. Toyota Corolla (25,831 units)

Despite being in production for over 7 years, the 11th generation Toyota Corolla remained the 3rd bestselling local assembled car of the year in Pakistan. In fact during the last quarter (October-December 2021) it sales stood even higher than that of Yaris. In full year 2021, sales of Toyota Corolla in Pakistan were clocked at an impressive 25,831 units.

#2. Toyota Yaris (28,673 units)

The second bestselling car in Pakistan in year 2021 was again Toyota Yaris. It was the second consecutive year for the subcompact sedan to post thumping sales to be able to grab the title of second highest selling car of Pakistan. Although started to witness a slight decline in sales in presence of new options such as 6th gen Honda City and Changan Alsvin, the position of Yaris as second bestselling car is still unaffected.

The current 53,887 units for Alto is almost 17% more than the highest-ever sales figure of Mehran in a year.
