Sales of electric vehicles (EVs) in Turkey soared eightfold in 2023, reaching 68,700 units, according to April 2024 data compiled by the International Energy Agency (IEA). Of these sales, 66,000 were battery electric vehicles (BEVs), with the remaining 2,700 being plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). The surge marks a significant increase from the 7,540 EVs sold in 2022.

Electric vehicles also saw a substantial rise in their overall market share, accounting for 10% of all vehicle sales in 2023, compared to just 1.1% in 2022. Since their sales debut in 2015, EVs have steadily gained popularity in Turkey, reaching a total electric vehicle stock of 82,000 by the end of 2023. The introduction of the TOGG T10X in late 2023, the nation’s first domestically manufactured electric car, further fueled this growth.
According to IEA, around 20,000 units of TOGG T10X were sold by the end of 2023. The surge in electric car sales aligns with Turkey’s record-breaking performance in the automotive industry overall.
