Chinese auto giant Geely which recently surpassed 10 million units cumulative sales milestone has now formally announced to have sold over 1 million units of its most successful SUV– the Boyue. Introduced in 2016, Geely Boyue has since been launched in over 17 countries across the world including Russia, as well as markets in Eastern Europe, South America, Africa and Southeast Asia.
The vehicle is sold under different names in various markets such as Atlas, Emgrand X7 Sport or Azkarra, as well as Proton X70 in Malaysia which is subtly different in terms of cosmetics from the actual Boyue. The X70 is considered a market leader back in its home with super strong sales and has helped Proton to regain its title as the second bestselling car brand in Malaysia while contributing to the 1 million global sales of its donor– the Geely Boyue. Proton X70 is also on the verge of being introduced in Pakistan, as the SUV was just unveiled to media yesterday and is set to make an official debut in a digital event on the 18th of this month.
Geely Boyue was one of the first models in China to come equipped with intelligent connectivity features, allowing owners to interact with the vehicle with voice commands using the activation phrase “Nihao Boyue” which was translated to English as “Hi Proton” for the X70.

Sales of Geely Boyue have averaged 20,000 units per month for the past three and a half years since its debut. In 2019 the updated Boyue Pro was introduced which gets a 48-volt mild hybrid system in conjunction with a 1.5 liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine.
The company recently celebrated the million-unit milestone by introducing a special edition Boyue that adorned Proton’s Infinite Weave grille instead of Geely’s signature “expanding cosmos” grille. Geely says that Boyue may have been born as a Chinese domestic SUV, but its success outside of China has made it a global powerhouse and the company is expecting great things for the future.
The Geely Boyue-based Proton X70 that will begin to be assembled in Pakistan before June 2021 will also contribute to the global Boyue sales. The vehicle will reportedly be priced competitively and with an array of convenience and safety features, backed by an industry-first 5-years/ 150,000km warranty, is expected to do well in Pakistani market.
