Winners and Losers of September 2020

Car sales in Pakistan continued to recover after the COVID-19 disaster as sales of local assembled vehicles saw an improvement of 19% with 13,882 units sold in September. According to the data released by PAMA (Pakistan Automobile Manufacturer’s Association), on M-o-M basis, Toyota, Honda and Suzuki sales witnessed recovery by 32%, 20% and 8% respectively however on Y-o-Y basis, Suzuki suffered from a 20% decline whereas Toyota and Honda sales stood 106% and 87% higher.

Each month we bring you the Winners & Losers comparison, where winners are those which saw an improvement in sales over the previous month and losers being those which witness a decline in sales. While most of the models saw an increase in sales in September over August 2020; there were some which suffered from a decline.

Winners and Losers of September 2020 1

Highest increase in sales was witnessed by the Hyundai Tucson which saw 215 units leaving the showroom floors, making it the most successful Hyundai product in the lineup. Suzuki WagonR also made a good comeback with an improvement of 58.4% followed by Isuzu D-MAX and Honda BR-V which also saw an impressive 54.5% and 50% increase in sales respectively.

Toyota Yaris saw a 42% increase in sales compared to previous month with its individual sales standing taller than Honda’s City and Civic combined. Toyota Corolla also made a healthy comeback with 40.5% increase in sales over previous month. Other models which saw a decent improvement include Suzuki Alto, Swift and Honda Civic & City.

Surprisingly however the Cultus saw a whopping 49% decline in sales followed by Suzuki Ravi, the sales of which got reduced by 16%. Toyota Hilux also saw a marginal 2% reduction in sales compared to the numbers from preceding month.
