The new Toyota Yaris Ativ in Thailand gets off to a flying start in 2023. Having made its world debut in August 2022, the B-segment sedan has thrashed its arch-rival Honda City by a huge margin.
In January 2023, the new Toyota Yaris Ativ sedan topped the sales chart in its segment having sold 5,400 units outpacing the runner-up Honda City at 1,817 units. Sales of Yaris stood a staggering 197% higher than the City sedan.
In third place was the MG5 sedan with 590 units followed by Nissan Almera (Sunny) in 4th place with 507 units. At 5th place was Mitsubishi Attrage with 338 units followed by Mazda 2 sedan with 255 units. Suzuki Ciaz was seated at the bottom of the table with just 59 units sold in the Thai market during January 2023.
A total of 8,966 cars were sold in the segment which is 106% more than the numbers from December 2022. In terms of market share, Toyota Yaris Ativ holds a dominating 60.2% of the segment, while Honda City secures a 20.3% share of the market.

Already dominating the segment, Toyota is in the works to further cement its dominance with the introduction of the Yaris hybrid to take on the Honda City e:HEV hybrid in Thailand. The latest iteration is expected to be introduced towards the latter half of the year.
