Alto Surpass 4 Million Sales Milestone in India

Maruti Alto is considered as the most successful car in India. Earlier in June, the Alto emerged as country’s best-selling car for the 16th consecutive year, now the entry-level hatchback has crossed the 40 lac sales mark in the Indian market, making it the only car in India to achieve the extraordinary milestone.

The Alto was introduced back in September 2000 and achieved the feat in just 20 years, selling average 200,000 units a year which translates into 16,667 units a month. During all these years, the Alto has witnessed a consistent rise in popularity & has remained a preferred choice for young & first time car buyers. According to information 76% of first time car buyers in India prefer going for Alto.

Speaking on the achievement of Maruti Suzuki Alto, Mr Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India, said:

The Maruti Suzuki Alto is successful for its compact dimensions, easy maneuverability, modern design, affordable prices and high fuel efficiency delivering up to 22.05 km per liter for petrol and 31.56 km/kg for CNG. The company keeps on updating the car with the latest features which further strengthens its grip in the market.

Alto was also India’s first entry level car to become BS6 compliant and comes equipped with features including driver side airbag, ABS and EBD, reverse parking sensor, high speed alert system and seat belt reminder for both driver and co-driver as standard, while complying with latest crash and pedestrian safety regulations.

Under the hood there is a 796cc petrol engine producing 48hp and 69Nm that comes paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The 2020 Maruti Suzuki Alto is priced from INR 3.0 lac (PKR 6.65 lac) for the base STD variant and goes as high as INR 4.37 lac (PKR 9.69 lac) for LXi CNG variant.
