Indus Motor Company (IMC) the assemblers of Toyota cars in Pakistan got a promising start to 2024 with January sales hitting 2,762 units against the 684 units sold in December 2023. While this shows an impressive 304% month-on-month improvement, the numbers were still 23% fewer than the ones in January 2023.

The reason for Toyota’s strong sales performance in January 2024 was the freshly introduced Corolla Cross hybrid, which, like any other pricey offering in Pakistan, became a center of attraction for the rich & affluent. With 961 units, not only that the Corolla Cross emerge as the highest-selling locally assembled Toyota in Pakistan, it also became the second highest-selling car in January only behind the 660cc Suzuki Alto.
The decade-old 11th gen Corolla continues to do wonders for IMC as it saw 622 units leaving the showroom floors in January 2024, which is 202% more than 206 units sold in December. On the other hand, Toyota’s IMV duo of Hilux and Fortuner also did rather well with 477 and 142 units respectively, rendering 430% and 255% improvement compared to the numbers from the previous month.
However, in terms of improvement, the Yaris was seated at the bottom for IMC with 61% more units (560) sold in January 2024 compared to 348 units sold in December 2023. The obsolete B-segment sedan faces stiff competition in Pakistan from 6th gen Honda City (another obsolete offering) as well as the Changan Alsvin sedan.
All in all, Toyota sold 2,762 units in January 2024, which stands 304% higher than the 684 units sold in December 2023. While the start of the new calendar year is indeed impressive, it’s still less than half of what IMC used to sell in a month during the glory days.
