The Hyper SSR electric sports car by GAC goes on sale in China. Revealed last year, the SSR boasts a staggering 1,224 hp of power, an impressive 506 km of driving range, and a 0 to 100 acceleration time of just 1.9 seconds.
At first, Hyper was a line of automobiles sold under the GAC Aion name. Later, it evolved into a standalone brand to emphasize its high-end market positioning. The Hyper model line comprises two models, GT and SSR.
The named SSR stands for “Super, Sport, Race”. It is a two-door electric coupe with gull-wing doors and a sleek appearance. L-shaped headlights and a dynamic bumper with a big air intake are on the front end. The SSR sports an active spoiler and two slim taillight units on the back. Additionally, carbon fiber is used for the outer body parts to reduce weight. SSR’s aerodynamic qualities enable it to produce 100 kg of downforce. It also has brakes made of carbon fiber for improved braking. The tire sizes on its front wheels are 245/35 R20 and 305/30 R20 on the back.
The Hyper SSR’s interior features a massive 14.6-inch touchscreen in the center of the console and a compact, square steering wheel with an 8.88-inch LCD instrument cluster behind it. Both seats have electronic adjustments and provide ventilation and heating. Lots of leather is another interior element of the SSR. It appears that Hyper engineers used carbon fiber components to minimize the curb weight of the car only to stuff the interior with as much leather as they could. Additionally, it boasts 8 speakers, dual-zone climate control, and automated climate control.
In terms of performance, the Hyper SSR boasts an all-wheel drive system with a combined power output of 900 kW (1,224 hp) and 1,230 Nm. The base variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds while the top trim accelerates from a standstill to 100 km per hour in just 1.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically restricted to 250 km/h. The SSR’s battery is ternary (NMC) and has a capacity of 74.69 kWh. On a single charge, it can travel up to 506 kilometers (CLTC).
The Hyper SSR is available in three trim levels. The entry-level variant of Hyper SSR costs 1,286,000 yuan ($176,400), then the Hyper SSR Speed Version is available for 1,386,000 yuan ($190,100). The flagship Hyper SSR Ultimate Track Version bears a price tag of 1,686,000 yuan ($231,200). More on the official Hyper website.
