Isuzu D-MAX Recorded Lowest-Ever Sales in November

While the ongoing slowdown has affected the established players in the auto sector, it has equally affected the newcomers as well. Ghandhara Industries Limited (GIL) introduced the Isuzu D-Max range of pickup trucks in Pakistan in November last year, while its sales started to appear in PAMA (Pakistan Automobile Manufacturers Association) sales chart from February 2019.

The average monthly sales of Isuzu D-Max between February to June 2019 stood at 80 units per months whereas in the first 4 months of this fiscal year were average 59 units a month, however it posted its lowest-ever figure of just 15 units in the month of November. This is a -67% reduction in sales compared to that of previous month (46 units).

GIL sold 250 units of Isuzu D-Max during the first 5 months of this fiscal year, in comparison its rival Toyota Hilux sold 1,710 units in the same period. However the Hilux sales were a rather impressive 2,436 units in the same period a year earlier. Although Toyota Hilux sales are -30% less on year-on-year basis, its sales reduced by -13.5% in November (D-Max reduced by -67%) with 359 units compared to 413 units sold in October 2019.

Car sales generally remain low towards the end of year as buyers usually wait to go for the new model year vehicle; so it is expected that sales might recover from January 2020 onwards.
