Kia has announced that its Sonet compact crossover has sold more than 150,000 units in India in less than two years since its launch in September 2020. The South Korean automaker revealed that Kia Sonet with a 32% share has contributed to nearly one-third of total sales for the brand in Indian market.

According to Kia India, 26% of customers preferred to buy the top variants of the Sonet. The automaker further claimed to have grabbed a 15% market share in the highly competitive compact crossover segment which includes rivals such as Tata Nexon, Nissan Magnite, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, Toyota Urban Cruiser and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
After Seltos, the Sonet crossover was the second product by Kia in India and is also the second bestselling model from the brand after Seltos. Bear in mind both Seltos and Sonnet made their global debut in India. Commenting on the sales milestone, Myung-sik Sohn, Chief Sales Officer of Kia India, said that evolved urban Indian customers are dynamic, tech-savvy, and bold, and Sonet serves as the right product for them. Sohn went on to add:
“The Sonet has won several accolades not only for its design, performance, and practicality but also by creating favorability for iMT and introducing the only Diesel AT in the segment. In April this year, we added 4 airbags as standard across even the lower variants of Sonet, further enhancing the vehicle’s safety and propelling its popularity.”
Kia Sonet in India is priced from INR 7.15 lac (PKR 19.25 lac) for the base 1.2L HTE variant and goes as high as INR 13.79 lac (PKR 37.13 lac) for the most expensive 1.5L GTX Plus automatic variant.
