The next generation Toyota Yaris/ Vios sedan is inching closer to its formal reveal and we now have the latest spy shots of its camouflaged test mule running on the roads of Thailand. This is the third time that the all-new Yaris/ Vios has been caught testing, the earlier two occasions were in the month of May, on which you can see our earlier coverage here and here.
The latest images are the most clear ones compared to the previous photos and the test mule is also wearing a different livery which gives us quite a good deal of details to notice. The base design is said to have taken cues from the Daihatsu DN-F sedan concept previewed at the 2017 Gaikindo International Auto Show.

The front-end is angular with an inverted U-shaped grille. The triangular headlights have their edges merge into the curved-sides of the grille rendering a sporty look. The bonnet features dual creases for a more muscular look upfront. The sides features a shoulder line that extends from the bonnet all the way up to the rear lights. There is additional rear quarter glass behind the rear doors and the overall silhouette looks very similar to the new Honda City sedan. The back lights are slim split units, pretty much like that of new City.

Unlike all preceding Yaris generations, the new one won’t carry the XP codename (first-gen XP40, second-gen XP90, third-gen XP150) but will use code D92A. This is because Toyota will use the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform for the new Vios/ Yaris sedan. By using DNGA platform however, the next generation Vios/ Yaris sedan will get benefits such as weight savings, enhanced rigidity and improved safety.

Reportedly, the D92A Yaris/ Vios will come with two engine options in Thailand. There will be a 1.2L naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine to comply with Thailand’s Eco Car regulations as well as a new 1.5L hybrid, which might be the same unit deployed in the latest Toyota Aqua hybrid in Japan. The hybrid version will help Toyota compete the new Yaris/ Vios against the new Honda City e:HEV hybrid.

According to Thai motoring media, the Yaris will be making its debut in August 2022. Once launched in Thailand, the new Toyota Yaris will begin reaching other markets from 2023 onward. More information on the next generation Yaris sedan to be shared as & when available, stay tuned to CarSpiritPK.
