Petrol and Diesel Prices Increased, Shattering All Previous Records

The “caretaker” government has once again pushed through another hike in the prices of petrol by Rs 26.02 per liter and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs17.34 per liter.

Shattering all previous records, the increase brings the price of petrol to Rs 331.38 per liter while HSD is Rs 329.18 per liter, according to the Ministry of Finance notification.

According to the government, the decision was taken owing to the increasing trend of petroleum prices in the international market. However, no revision was specified in the rates of kerosene or light diesel oil.

Petroleum prices have risen by nearly 20% in one month since the caretaker government took over. The latest price hike comes on the heels of an already massive increase on September 1, when the interim government raised fuel prices by up to Rs 18 per liter. That jump in petroleum prices had come after similar hikes by the interim government on August 15.
