Proton X90 Launched in Brunei

Proton has launched its X90 flagship SUV in Brunei, making it the third export market after Mauritius and South Africa to receive the latest Geely-based model.

In Brunei, the Proton X90 is available in four variants with prices starting from 35,000 Brunei dollars (PKR 74.93 lac) for the Standard to BND42,000 (PKR 89.91 lac) for the Flagship variant. Proton also stated that August was its best-ever month for sales in Brunei when 100 units of vehicles were registered and sales surpassed the three-figure mark for the first time.

Although the economic climate made it a difficult year for its export business, the Malaysian automaker claimed it remained committed to expanding its presence in its current export markets because it was an essential aspect of its longer-term goals. Steven Xu, director of international sales for Proton, claimed that the X90’s introduction in these markets just three months after its debut in Malaysia demonstrated this intention. He said:

“We view this as an investment in our future, as we position ourselves to take advantage of improved market conditions in the future.”

Xu added that the company was continuing to explore opportunities in other markets, with groundwork underway in Fiji, Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Iraq, among others.

In Pakistan however, Proton’s troubling times continue as 4 authorized dealerships (during the last month) have so far parted ways with the Malaysian automaker & its local partner for failing to deliver vehicles that were booked for over 2 years. Proton launched the X90 SUV here in December 2020 and Saga in April 2021 and is yet to deliver the units that were booked more than two years ago.
