Aygo is a successful city car in Toyota’s lineup, slotted below the Yaris in European markets so the new Aygo X Prologue concept illustrates Toyota’s commitment to the important A-segment market in European region.
Riding on company’s new TNGA-B modular platform the Aygo X Prologue measures 3,700mm long, 1,500mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,430mm and is slightly bigger than the current Aygo which is 3,465mm long, 1,460mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,340mm.

In terms of styling, the extravagant design features C shaped headlamps that are connected to each other via an LED strip right above the bonnet. The lower apron houses a large lower intake flanked by hexagonal-shaped LED fog lamps and side air vents in the corners of the bumper. Other design highlights include skid plates, roof rack, black wheel arch claddings, a more rakish rear windscreen, an angled window line and dual-tone exterior colors.
According to Ian Cartabiano, president of Toyota’s European Design Center, which handled the design of Aygo X Prologue concept, said:
“Reimagining the A-segment means offering something new to the customer, and I love that the Aygo X has some of those crossover cues but looks more fun to drive and is definitely more on the urban side.”
The concept also features certain design elements that may not become part of production version, such as the stylized side mirrors with built-in cameras, retractable door handles and 19-inch wheels which will obviously be replaced by standard ones when the final production version arrives.

To keep it within the reach of buyers, the Japanese automaker will continue to deploy smaller & economical petrol engines with the Aygo X so it remains Toyota’s most affordable car in Europe, likely matching the current Aygo’s £12,500 starting price. The Aygo X is expected to make its production debut in early 2022 and will go on sale in European markets thereafter.
