Wagon R Surpasses 30 Lac Units Sales Milestone in India

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has set a new and massive sales milestone in India. The tallboy hatchback has sold 30 lac units since its introduction in the Indian car market in the year 1999.

In its long and illustrious journey of over two decades, the Wagon R has become an iconic brand in India. With over 200,000 units sold in the recently concluded fiscal year, the Wagon R surpassed the Maruti Alto as the bestselling car in the Indian market.

It took 9 years for the company to reach the 5 lac units milestone, but then doubled to 10 lac units in just 4 years in 2012, thanks to the introduction of the 2nd gen model in 2010 (the one we still have here). In the next three years, Wagon R reached the 15 lac units sales milestone in 2015 and then needed only 2 years to surpass 20 lac units in 2017. It then took almost 4 years to breach the 25 lac units mark mainly due to the pandemic episode in 2020. However, it took only 2 more years for the Wagon R to reach from 25 lac to 30 lac units.
