The unbeatable Toyota Corolla has held on to its crown as the world’s best-selling vehicle in the first half of 2016, according to data from Focus2move.
The Italian research house claims that all versions of Toyota Corolla including the North American model, the Japanese-market Corolla Axio and the international model sold in the rest of the world racked up a total of 634,298 units between January and June this year.
This figure is actually 1.2% down on the same period last year, because Toyota went on to sell a record-breaking 1.3 million Corollas last year, so a slight shortfall in this regard is understandable.

At the second place is the Volkswagen Golf, sales of which were 500,630 units in the first half of the year. That’s a 1.8% decrease from the same period last year, due to weak sales in the United States and Canada, likely as a result of the infamous diesel emissions cheating scandal.
Ford’s F-Series line of pick-up trucks took the third place with sales reaching 478,384 units jumping 12.6% over the first half of last year. Focus2move stated that Ford’s workhorse lineup could overtake the Golf in terms of sales by the end of this year.
Down the list Ford Focus is in fourth position, with 367,479 units in sales, while its Korean rival, the Hyundai Elantra, followed close behind with 363,490 units. Meanwhile, 358,602 units of the Volkswagen Polo were sold, putting it in sixth place. The best-selling SUV title went to the Toyota RAV4, of which 346,791 units were sold.
The last few spots in the top ten were occupied by the Toyota Camry at 339,611 units, the Honda CR-V at 333,597 units and the Chevrolet Silverado at 307,845 units. Interestingly, the Hyundai Tucson jumped 94 spots to 16th place by securing a 202.4% hike in sales from 94,267 units to 286,060 units.
