Hyundai’s Ioniq hybrid sedan has been awarded a five-star safety rating in the latest round of ASEAN NCAP crash tests. The model scored an overall 91.98 out of a total of 100, thanks to far above average scores in adult occupancy, child occupancy and safety assist technology and systems.
Except for the optional blind spot technology, the Ioniq gets standard safety equipment such as ABS with EBD, seven airbags, forward collision warning, lane departure and lane-keep assist. In the tests, the vehicle scored 46.34 points out of 50 for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category, 21.48 points out 25 for Child Occupant Protection (COP) and 24.17 points out of 25 for Safety Assist Technologies (SATs).
The Ionic is the world’s first hybrid to be offered with three powertrain options – pure electric, plug-in hybrid and standard hybrid. The Kappa 1.6GDI, four-cylinder engine powers the hybrid and the plug-in hybrid versions. Mated to a six-speed double clutch transmission, it generates 103bhp of power and 147Nm of torque.

The electric motor generates about 43bhp of power and 170Nm of torque which combined with the conventional engine generates about 139bhp of power and 265Nm of torque.
