Car Sales in November saw 40% Y.o.Y Increase

Sales of passenger cars in November increased by 40% compared to the same month a year earlier, according to the data released by PAMA (Pakistan Automobile Manufacturers Association). The increase in sales is attributed towards lower interest rates and continued revival of economic activities.

Sales in November 2020 stood at 11,914 units compared to 8,524 units from November 2019. However, the figure remained lower when compared with 11,997 units sold in October 2020 witnessing a marginal 0.7% month on month decline. Cumulative sales in the first 5 months of this fiscal year (July-November) remained at 55,779 units, up 13.6% compared to 49,107 cars sold during the same period last year.

In November, 1300cc and above car sales witnessed an increase of 82% to 6,244 units, compared with 3,430 units sold during the same month in the previous year. Sales of 1000cc cars saw an increase by 54% to 2,398 units against 1,555 units in corresponding period, whereas sales of below 800cc cars dropped by 7.54% to 3,272 units in November against 3,539 units in the same month last year. Sales of 4x4s increased massively by 157% to 869 units in November against 338 units last year, while that of pickup trucks increased by 1,750 units from 972 units in November a year earlier.

About individual players, Pak Suzuki sold 6,803 vehicles in November 2020 witnessing a 12% MoM increase and 16% YoY increase. Indus Motor Company (IMC) sold 4,942 Toyota vehicles in November, registering an 87% YoY increase but a 10% MoM decline. Honda Atlas recorded a negligible 0.2% MoM increase with 2,237 units in November and a YoY increase of 72%.

New entrant Hyundai Nishat sold 472 units in November 2020 witnessing 63% MoM increase, whereas Ghandhara’s troubling times persists with Isuzu D-Max which managed to sell just 3 units in November registering a deplorable 86% MoM and 80% YoY decline.
