Launched towards the end of April 2023, BYD Seagull has achieved this milestone within just 7 months of presence in the market. More interestingly, it took nearly 4.5 months to breach the 100,000 mark and took hardly 70 days to clock another 100,000 units. The small EV sold 43,350 units in October, its best-ever month so far in terms of sales.
Positioned as an entry-level offering in BYD’s lineup, the Seagull is priced between 73,800 yuan and 89,800 yuan ($10,400 to $12,600) and has carved a niche for itself in the competitive Chinese EV market. the BYD Seagull measures 3,780/1,715/1,540 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,500 mm, making it a tad longer than the Wagon R we have here, and is much wider than the Alto with a very generous wheelbase that translates into a better interior space for the occupants.

Under the skin, the BYD Seagull boasts a 55 kW (75 hp) motor, enabling it to reach a top speed of 130 km/h. It comes with two battery options— one is a 30 kWh LFP battery that gives a 305 km CLTC driving range, while the second option is a 38 kWh LFP battery, offering an extended 405 km CLTC range. Both battery configurations support DC fast charging, which helps the Seagull to charge up to 80% in 30 minutes.
