Troubled with semi-conductor chip shortages coupled by restrictions on the import of CKD kits, Indus Motor Company (IMC) the assemblers of Toyota cars in Pakistan will observe 7 non production days (NPDs) in the month of July, according to the information shared by AutoJournal.
IMC, alongside other assemblers is encountering a production crisis following the massive depreciation of PKR as well as the restrictions imposed by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in order to control the ballooning import deficit. Prior to COVID-19 shutdowns in year 2020, local assemblers observed NPDs due to subdued demand of automobiles in 2019. IMC had observed a total of 55 NPDs during that year.
The company has already apologized for delays in deliveries caused by the above mentioned factors. However the occurrence of NPDs show the situation is indeed quite bad and can result in further delays in deliveries of booked units. According to AutoJournal, other assemblers are also expected to announce their NPD schedule soon.
