Among those 70% obsolete cars in Pakistan which are being sold as “new” is the 3rd gen Hyundai Tucson. The vehicle was launched here in the year 2020 in tandem with the global unveiling of the all-new 4th gen Tucson.
This generation model debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2015 and is more than 8 years old by international standards. Brazil is the only country other than Pakistan, where the 3rd gen Hyundai Tucson is still being produced. It is notorious for scoring zero stars in Latin NCAP crash tests conducted in 2021.
Considered a sister product of Kia Sportage, the obsolete 3rd gen Tucson now gets a new base variant in Pakistan, equivalent to that of Sportage Alpha– the base variant sold by Kia Pakistan. Bear in mind Kia recently introduced a new flagship variant of its 4th gen Sportage– another globally obsolete model in Pakistan. Hyundai Tucson’s new base variant called GLS, which obviously misses out on features & equipment is priced at PKR 73.65 lac.

The previously available Tucson variants are priced at PKR 82.30 lac for GLS Sport FWD and PKR 88.59 lac for the flagship Ultimate AWD variant. It is pertinent to mention that Kia Pakistan has recently jacked up the prices of its vehicles, so one can expect Hyundai Nishat to announce a price revision as well.
The lower price tag of Tucson GLS compared to other variants is evident to excuse a slew of missing features. On the outside, the GLS comes equipped with halogen headlamps instead of projector units. And while the Tucson originally gets a chrome-finished grille and chromic door handles, there is a black radiator grille with silver surrounds and body-colored door handles for the base GLS variant.

Inside, the Tucson GLS misses out on a number of features including a sunroof, wireless charger, smart key, engine push start button, automatic defogger, and electronically adjustable seat with lumbar lumbar support. It’s more compromising on the safety forefront since a PKR 73.65 lac price tag isn’t enough to include EBD with BA, ESC & traction control, electronic parking brake & auto-hold function, hill start & downhill assist, and a cooled glove box.
Under the hood, the Tucson GLS retains the 2.0L engine that sends the power to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The 2023 Hyundai Tucson GLS is backed by 4 year/ 100,000 km company warranty (whichever occurs first).
