Changan has formally launched the refreshed Hunter pickup truck, first previewed in December 2023 at the Guangzhou Auto Show. The automaker claims it to be the world’s first Extended-Range EV (EREV) pickup truck.
The new Changan Hunter is available in 8 variants with prices starting from 139,900 yuan ($19,450/ PKR 54.13 lac) and going as high as 216,900 yuan ($31,150/ PKR 86.69 lac).
In single-motor variants, the rear axle is equipped with a 130 kW unit, while in four-wheel drive versions, the front axle is equipped with a 70 kW electric motor. All variants get the same 31.18 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. Changan claims the setup is good enough for a combined range of 1,031 km and a pure electric range of 180 km (CLTC). As a range extender, the Hunter uses the JL486ZQ6 engine, a 2.0T unit that can deliver a maximum of 140 kW power, however, being an EREV the engine only acts as an electricity generator.
The Hunter’s fascia receives a significant makeover in terms of appearance, with design cues that now align it with the newest generation of Changan cars, such as the UNI series. The sharp headlamps on either side are intimately connected to the prominent front grille, which forms an entire section. Additionally, the black decorative bars that encircle the front bumper design on both sides add to the vehicle’s overall ruggedness.
Compared to the previous model, the new Hunter’s interior has undergone a complete redesign. The dual-tone interior, which aims to provide comfort akin to that of a sedan, includes a large free-standing screen that houses the 12.0-inch infotainment system and 7.5-inch digital instrument cluster, a flat-bottomed multifunction steering wheel, and horizontally positioned air vents. The center console is equipped with a rotary drive mode selector, wireless charging pad, and cup holders. Similar to other recent Chinese cars, the gear lever has been moved to the stalk located behind the steering wheel.
Features inside include cruise control, AutoNavi map navigation, turn assist lights, automatic wipers, voice control, OTA upgrade, leather steering wheel, 40W wireless phone charging, leather seats, ventilated & heated seats, 6 speakers, air conditioning, and rear air vents, etc.

Changan Hunter has received positive responses not just in China but in overseas markets as well, ever since it made its debut nearly 4 years ago. Because there aren’t many NEVs available for commercial vehicles—pickup trucks in particular—the new Changan Hunter EREV is anticipated to gain enormous popularity.
