Renault Achieves 10 Lac Units Production Milestone in India

Renault has just announced having achieved a production milestone of 1,000,000 vehicles in India. This amazing feat demonstrates Renault’s production prowess and highlights its dedication to providing Indian consumers with high-quality vehicles.

The milestone model was a Kiger painted in Red that rolled out from the company’s Chennai production facility. The manufacturing site has a capacity of rolling out 480,000 units per year, which has played a pivotal role in helping the carmaker achieve this feat.

Renault’s journey in India began in February 2008 when the Renault-Nissan Alliance signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Tamil Nadu to set up a manufacturing plant in Oragadam near Chennai. Work on the plant began in June later that year and was completed in a record 21 months. Renault Design India, the first vehicle design studio set up by a foreign manufacturer in India, was established in Mumbai in September 2008. The design house is vital to Renault’s success in India because one of its goals is to keep track of consumer trends and customize global products for the country.

Renault began selling its products in 2011 starting with the Fluence sedan. Currently, the automaker has 3 passenger vehicle models on sale in India including Kwid, Kiger, and Triber. It exports these models to 14 countries across SAARC, Asia Pacific, Indian Oceanic Region, South Africa, and East Africa regions.

The Renault-Nissan alliance has recently committed a major fresh investment of 5,300 crore to support the development of 6 new products including EVs. Renault has already made substantial investments in manufacturing, technology, and talent, to create a robust production infrastructure in India.

Renault currently has a network of more than 450 sales and 530 service touchpoints across India, while it aims to keep expanding its footprint so as to better serve its customers in all areas. Further, Renault is working on attaining 90% localization for its upcoming products which is in line with the government’s ‘Make in India’ mission.
