Volkswagen is preparing a facelift for the 8th generation Golf, which will be unveiled at the end of January. In 2024, the VW Golf, one of the oldest running nameplates, will celebrate its 50th anniversary, so the update will be significant for both the brand and the model.

There will be several improvements in the upcoming facelifted Mk8 Golf, such as “visually refined features, new assist systems, and powertrains, as well as next-generation infotainment systems and software.” VW claims that in addition to releasing a revised version of the vehicle, it will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Golf by bringing vintage models to events across the globe. Its seven historical generations are scheduled to appear in Bremen, Paris, and other key locations.
Golf has been in production since 1974 and is considered the most successful model in VW’s lineup after the Beetle, though the latter has been discontinued now. In just two years of its debut, the first-generation Golf reached 1 million sales worldwide. Today, spanning across eight generations, more than 37 million examples of the hatchback have been delivered to customers around the globe.
VW Golf is the world’s all-time highest-selling car only behind the Toyota Corolla and Ford F-Series. According to Volkswagen:
“The secret of success was and still is the sum of all its characteristics. This is because Golf has always been a perfect companion for everyday life, embodying versatility, functionality, reliability, and quality.”
Following the debut of the refreshed Golf model in late January, VW anticipates that pre-sales will begin in the spring of 2024.
