Leap Motor recently presented its “Four Leaf Clover” architecture that features an integrated computing platform capable of controlling all intelligent functions including an EV’s autonomous driving and smart cockpit functions, according to the company CEO, Zhu Jiangming.
At the same time, the CEO announced two licensing agreements with two foreign companies involving, respectively, automotive technology and vehicle underbody structure technology. Zhu did not provide any additional information, simply adding that the company is interested in expanding beyond manufacturing to include technology licensing.
The rumor follows last week’s Volkswagen’s agreements with Xpeng and SAIC Motors. The German auto manufacturer will develop two mid-size models with Xpeng architecture, while Audi will jointly develop an intelligent cockpit, electric drive system, and other technology with SAIC Motors in addition to obtaining an EV platform from IM Motors. It appears that Volkswagen Group is eager to bolster its position in the lucrative but fiercely competitive Chinese electric vehicle market and plans to gain from the well-proven Chinese EV platforms and electric car technologies.
