Xiaomi SU7 Makes European Debut

After making its debut in China in December 2023,  Xiaomi’s first-ever vehicle, the SU7 electric sedan was unveiled today to the European audience for the first time.

Interestingly, Xiaomi SU7 didn’t have its European debut at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show, but at the 2024 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona— one of the biggest tech events of the year— where Xiaomi, as a smartphone and tech giant, feels much more at home.

Xiaomi President Lu Weibing accompanied the presentation with a post on Weibo, a photo of SU7 in Gulf Blue from MWC with a caption: “Xiaomi SU7 has been launched at the MWC. Is it cool?” Later, he gave an interview with CNBC, saying:

“We think it’s a good starting point for us in the premium segment because we already have 20 million premium users in China based on the smartphone.”

In his interview, Weibing said he believes that by the next decade, the electric vehicle market will be similar to today’s smartphone market, with the top 5 brands accounting for about 70% of the market share. Bear in mind there are currently around 100 EV makers in China.

The Xiaomi SU7 on show at the MWC is the Max variant with all-wheel drive and 664 hp (495 kW) of power. The EV has a 101 kWh battery pack and an 800V architecture. CLTC range is an impressive 800 km and the SU7 Max can sprint to 100km/h from a standstill in just 2.78 seconds. According to Weibing, Xiaomi aims to start mass shipments of the SU7 in the second quarter of this year. Prices are yet to be officially revealed though, but as per unofficial sources, the price will likely hover around 200,000 yuan and 300,000 yuan ($28,000 – $42,000).
