Suzuki has revealed the 2018 Jimny compact SUV ahead of its Japanese market debut, scheduled in the first week of July. This is the fourth generation for the SUV since it was first introduced in the 1970s. The third generation Jimny that was launched in 1998 lasted for 20 years but this time around, the generational step up has been massive. Here are 5 things that you need to know about the new 4th gen Suzuki Jimny.

Ladder Chassis
It might be the fourth generation for Suzuki’s most legendary SUV, but the recipe remains unchanged. It’s a ladder on frame for this new Jimny with an independent front suspension and rigid rear axle. There is a locking differential and AWD as optional extras.
Evolution of First-Gen Jimny
The fourth generation Jimny looks like an evolution of the first generation model rather than an altogether new design. There are familiar round headlamps, boxy silhouette and lifted stance commonly associated with ladder-on-frame models.
A Blend of Vintage & Modern Design
The exterior design might look boxy but the cabin is modern & sophisticated. There are subtle hints of the Potohar in the form of similar instrument cluster and the looks of passenger side dashboard.
Jimny Sierra
The standard Jimny will be offered with a turbocharged 660cc engine. This three-cylinder engine is good for 65bhp and roughly 100Nm of torque. The Jimny Sierra however, will be offered with Suzuki’s new 1.5-liter petrol engine and this is the engine that will most probably power the export versions. The 4th gen Jimny is expected to reach other markets either towards the end of this year or early 2019.
Jimny in Pakistan
Pak Suzuki sells the 3rd gen Jimny in Pakistan as a CBU import, powered by 1.3 liter M13A engine. Since the Jimny is not being assembled in Pakistan and the production of the 4th generation model has already kicked off in Japan, it’s quite likely that Pak Suzuki will start to offer the 4th generation Jimny once the vehicle is ready for export markets, either towards the end of 2018 or early next year. The current 3rd gen Jimny is priced at PKR 22.93 lac, so the updated model is likely to cost more than this.
