BYD has seen a phenomenal start in Thailand. Debuting hardly a year ago in the Land of Smiles, BYD is already among the bestselling brands in the country.

After a magnificent sales performance of the Atto 3 EV— its first offering in the Thai market, the Chinese automaker is having an equally great experience, if not better, with the Dolphin electric hatchback.
Deliveries of BYD Dolphins started in Thailand in late August of this year, and since then, the well-known Japanese B-segment hatchbacks have found themselves severely impacted. In September 2023, which was Dolphin’s first full month of sales presence, it already outpaced the two leading contenders in the segment— the Honda City hatchback and Toyota Yaris hatchback.
In the following month in October, sales of BYD Dolphin had already doubled to that of City and Yaris hatchbacks, not to mention it was the second straight month for the Japanese duo to witness a sales decline after the entry of a Chinese rival. But November sales data is nothing less than astonishing. Sales of BYD Dolphin now stand more than 3 times the number of City and Yaris, while the numbers of the latter two continue to diminish.
The 2,825 units of BYD Dolphin sold in November 2023 is also the highest individual sales figure of the year. The previous high was held by Honda City hatchback with 2,611 units in March 2023, while the highest for Toyota Yaris hatchback was 2,288 units in April 2023.
In full-year sales, the Dolphin has already grabbed the title of the third bestselling B-segment hatchback, but with a presence of hardly 3 months in the Thai market it is already the bestselling car in the segment since sales of the last three months are way higher than Honda City and Toyota Yaris hatchbacks.
Between September and November, 6,859 units of Dolphin were sold in Thailand compared to 3,494 units of City and 3,409 units of Yaris. This indicates that sales of BYD Dolphin have already surpassed those of Yaris and City hatchbacks by a factor of two.
In addition to Dolphin and Atto 3, the recently released BYD Seal electric sedan is off to a terrific start in Thailand and is quickly elevating BYD to the top of the Thai market.
