In an unprecedented seven-month journey from London to Shanghai, MG’s ground-breaking all-electric sports vehicle, the Cyberster, is traveling 10,000 miles (16,000+ km) across continents to commemorate the company’s centennial in 2024.

The Cyberster is captained by Ross and Hugo Turner, British identical twin adventurers who have rowed across the Atlantic Ocean and traversed Greenland’s Ice Cap. They said the Cyberster has proven itself to be a practical convertible, “more than capable of being driven the long distances.”
“Most people would expect a head-turning convertible like the Cyberster to have no luggage space, but I can fit in the trunk! And there’s plenty of room in the cabin. We’ve spent most of the time with the roof down too, and there hasn’t been wind noise or buffeting, despite both of us being over six feet tall. We’ve driven more than 8,500 miles (13,679 kilometers), and I have a bad back having broken my neck many years ago, but it’s been outrageously comfortable. At no stage have I got out of the car in any pain, and there were days when it covered more than 250 miles (402 kilometers) between legs.”
So far the MG has visited France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Spain, and Italy, and pretty much the whole of the UK where it started its journey last September 12. Next up, the MG Cyberster will travel along parts of the Silk Road route, visiting areas covering Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The drive will finish in Shanghai, China, where MG’s parent company, SAIC is headquartered.

Crossing the finish line in Shanghai in 2024, the ultimate test drive of the world’s first EV roadster will mark the centenary year for the brand that originally began trading in Oxford as Morris Garages; now known around the world as MG. Fittingly for one of Britain’s iconic automotive brands, London’s Westminster Bridge was the start line for this cross-continental tour. Commenting on this, Guy Pigounakis, Commercial Director of MG Motor UK said:
“We’re thrilled to see the Cyberster embark on this momentous journey in celebration of MG’s centenary year in 2024, and to demonstrate the brand’s commitment to driving the future of electrification. We’re excited to be introducing MG customers across the globe to a new generation of high-performance MGs.”
