New Honda BR-V Launched in South Africa

After making successful debut in the Southeast Asian markets, the all-new second generation Honda BR-V has been launched in South Africa, a right-hand drive market like ours.

The new BR-V receives a complete interior and exterior redesign, a full suite of advanced driver assist systems, and updated underpinnings. It boasts a refreshed design that strikes the perfect balance between the characteristics of a luxury 7-seater SUV with the space and utility offered by an MPV. This new redesign features an updated chassis, suspension, and body rigidity for a more comfortable ride.

There are 4 variants available in South African market, namely Trend (manual), Comfort (manual), Comfort (CVT) and Elegance (CVT). In terms of features, the new BR-V range gets a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a height-adjustable driver seat, manual air-conditioning with rear-seat vents, hill start assist, vehicle stability assist, power outlets for all three rows, and 4 airbags as standard.

According to Honda, armrests, door panels, and dashboard are also wrapped in a “leather-like material” to create a more upmarket feel than before. Moving up, the Comfort variant gains a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, key-less entry and start, front armrests, fog lights, and two additional airbags.

The flagship Elegance variant has 4.2-inch multi-information driver’s display, automatic headlight operation, synthetic leather upholstery, walk-away auto locking, two more speakers for a total of 6, and the Honda Sensing driver assistance package, which includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, road departure mitigation, and a forward collision warning system.

Under the hood, the South African BR-V retains the known 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol engine with 120hp and 145Nm. Depending on the variant, the engine comes paired to withe a 6-speed manual or CVT, returning combined fuel consumption figures of between 14.7 to 15.8 km per liter. With its 42-litre tank, this results in a maximum driving range of up to 618km for the manual and 667km for the CVT variants. The new Honda BR-V in South Africa is priced as:
