Although SUVs are becoming rapidly popular, sedans and hatchbacks remain the most common types of vehicles, not just in our market but in most parts of the world. Sedans offer the added advantage of a trunk, making them more convenient for carrying luggage compared to hatchbacks. Both sedan and hatchback models can seat up to five passengers, however, if you’re traveling with six or more people, you’ll either need to squeeze additional passengers into the vehicle or opt for two cars instead of one.
That’s where 7-seater vehicles come in, offering a distinct advantage. Unlike the past, when such seating configurations were limited to minivans that resembled commercial vehicles or expensive, large fuel-hungry SUVs, today’s 7-seaters are often available as crossovers with fuel-efficient engines and are more affordable too.

Still, we believe with the sort of options we have, there is still room for many more offerings in this segment, which is poised for even more intense competition than it currently experiences. Currently, the only 7-seaters for middle-class buyers include the Honda BR-V, and DFSK Glory 580 Pro, and perhaps the Changan Karvaan if you like to consider that in the list. Other pricier options include the Changan Oshan X7, Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid, and Toyota Fortuner but are obviously beneficial only for those having strong purchasing power.
Let’s take a look at some 7-seater options that are performing exceptionally well in regional markets and could be introduced here to foster healthy competition in this segment.
Suzuki XL7
The Suzuki XL7 is a practical and spacious 7-seater crossover SUV, perfect for families or anyone needing a reliable ride. It’s powered by a 1.5-liter engine that delivers 104 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque, offering a good balance of performance and fuel efficiency. The XL7 comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission, making it easy to drive whether you’re navigating the city or heading out on a long road trip. With its stylish design, comfortable interior, and solid performance, the XL7 is a great choice for those looking for both versatility and value. There are only a few examples available as JDM imports, but if Pak Suzuki were to assemble the XL7 locally, it would undoubtedly be a valuable addition to the locally assembled lineup.
Kia Carens
The Kia Carens is a stylish and practical 7-seater MPV that offers a comfortable and versatile driving experience. With a modern design and spacious interior, it’s ideal for families or anyone needing extra seating and cargo space. The Carens is available with multiple engine options, including a 1.5-liter petrol engine producing 115 horsepower that’s more suited for our market. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic, giving drivers flexibility in performance. Packed with tech features and safety equipment, the Kia Carens stands out as a solid choice for those seeking a practical yet stylish family vehicle.
MG Hector Plus
MG Hector Plus is a 7-seater version of MG Hector. In addition to a number of engine choices, it comes with a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine which outputs 141 horsepower paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The Hector Plus provides a stylish design with ample features to enhance comfort for the entire family.
Hyundai Stargazer
The Hyundai Stargazer is a stylish 7-seater MPV designed for families seeking a modern, spacious, and practical vehicle. Powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine producing around 115 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque, it offers a smooth performance with a choice of a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. With its combination of design, comfort, and practicality, the Hyundai Stargazer is an excellent choice for those in need of a reliable and feature-rich MPV. The Stargazer also comes in a rugged, SUV-inspired variant called the Stargazer X. While it retains the same mechanicals and features as the standard model, it differentiates itself with unique aesthetic enhancements.
Toyota Rush
The Toyota Rush is an affordable and practical 7-seater ladder-frame vehicle, ideal for families. Powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine producing 104 horsepower and 136 Nm of torque, it offers a choice of a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. The Rush is compact yet spacious, with room for seven passengers and a good balance of ground clearance for both city and light off-road driving. Toyota previously launched the Rush as a CBU import in 2018, but its relatively higher price tag limited its appeal to buyers. However, if offered as a locally assembled model, it could certainly gain more traction in the market.
Chery Tiggo 7 Pro
The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is a feature-rich 5-seater SUV that combines modern design with advanced technology. Powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine delivering 145 horsepower and 210 Nm of torque, it offers a dynamic driving experience with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. With a focus on safety, comfort, and style, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro presents an appealing and affordable option in the SUV segment.
Peugeot 5008
The Peugeot 5008 is a stylish and spacious 7-seater SUV, offering a comfortable and versatile driving experience. Available with petrol and diesel engine options, it provides smooth performance with a choice of a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. The Peugeot 5008 combines practicality, comfort, and technology, making it an excellent choice for families. Lucky Motors has previously hinted at the launch of the Peugeot 5008 in Pakistan, with test mules spotted on various occasions. However, the official launch has yet to materialize.
