In order to comply with Thailand’s Phase 2 Eco Car regulations that stresses for better fuel economy and lower emissions, Toyota has ditched the old 3NR-FE 1.2 liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine with the 3NR-FKE, which is more powerful compared to its predecessor delivering 92hp/ 109Nm as opposed to 87hp/104Nm.
The engine also features Dual VVT-iE (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent system Electric Motor) instead of Dual VVT-i with a rated fuel consumption of 23.3 km/ liter. The engine also gets an idling start/stop system as standard, and is paired with a Super CVT-i transmission.

The list of standard safety equipment is similar on both the hatchback and sedan, as all come equipped with VSC, traction control, ABS, EBD, BA and HSA. However the Yaris Ativ does get 7 airbags (front, side, curtain and driver’s knee), while the Yaris gets only 2.
